Meet the Founder

Courtney Smith

Hi! I’m Courtney Smith, founder of Arrows in the Wild.

I was born and raised right here in Reno, Nevada!

I’m a wife, a homeschooling mom of two, and happiest when I’m outside with my family and friends. I love learning about childhood, people, nature, and most of all, Jesus.

My background is in Elementary and Special Education, and before becoming a homeschooling mom, I spent six years teaching kindergarten and one year teaching special education. I’ve always loved learning about children from how they grow, to how they learn and what helps them truly thrive.

Arrows in the Wild grew from a simple desire to get kids outside while helping them build a connection with the One who created it all.

Over the last few years, I’ve come to see just how important time outdoors is, especially for kids. As a homeschooling mom, I’m always looking for ways children can learn, grow, and experience the world in ways that feel natural and meaningful. Again and again, I’ve seen how much can happen when kids are simply given the space to explore, play, wonder, and be outside.

But I also felt like something was missing from many of the programs available to kids: an intentional connection to God.

That became the heart behind Arrows in the Wild. I want children to experience the wonder of creation while getting to know the Creator behind it. More than anything, I want kids to know Jesus, and I can’t think of a more beautiful setting for planting those seeds than right in the middle of His creation.

Thank you for being here and for being part of the beginning of Arrows in the Wild.

Chelsea Chatterton

Arrows Teacher

Chelsea Chatterton is a Christian, homeschooling momma of two delightfully wild girls. As unschoolers and outdoor enthusiasts, Chelsea and her husband lead their girls through life together as a river runs through the wilderness.

Chelsea is a former business major, but her passions have traversed through fitness, nutrition and gardening. Above all, her heart’s desire is to point to Jesus while lovingly equipping the next generation for the battle ahead. When she is not writing, she is reading, camping or acting like a kid herself, all with the aim to glorify Christ and encourage others toward an enthusiastically eternal perspective.

Her prayer would be that every reader develop a ravenous hunger and thirst for God's Word, which is the Sword of the Spirit. We must sharpen our swords for the purpose of cutting down the enemy.

“But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory
through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
1 Corinthians 15:57
